BBL Reduction
in Orange County, CA
Weight gain, a change in taste, or personal preference are all reasons patients choose to reduce the size of an initial Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL). Even if your primary BBL result is aesthetically pleasing, you may find that life with large buttocks is not for you–and that’s ok. At Optimal Plastic Surgery, we love to give patients the look that suits them and, of course, makes them happy. Whether you have naturally large buttocks you’d like to slim down, or you no longer like the results of your BBL, you’ve got options with a BBL reduction.
Dr. Joseph Bivens is a board-certified plastic surgeon with decades of experience performing and reducing Brazilian Butt Lifts. Dr. Bivens and our team at Optimal Plastic Surgery are committed to providing our patients with comprehensive, cohesive results and exemplary service.
What Is a
BBL Reduction?
A BBL reduction is a cosmetic procedure that uses liposuction to reduce the size and projection of the buttocks. A BBL reduction can be performed as a secondary procedure following an initial BBL, or it can be performed on patients who have naturally large buttocks and wish to reduce their size.
Request A ConsultationWhat Are the
Benefits of a BBL Reduction?
One of the primary goals of a BBL reduction is to help patients feel more comfortable with their bodies. By reducing the size of the buttocks, a BBL reduction can:
- Restore better proportion of the buttocks to the rest of the body
- Create a more uniform shape for uneven or asymmetric buttocks
- Increase physical comfort when large buttocks impede daily activities
- Improve the patient’s personal aesthetic
Am I a Candidate
for BBL Reduction?
Patients decide to reduce the size of their buttocks for multiple reasons, most of them personal. If you feel that your BBL no longer suits your unique aesthetic or is simply uncomfortable, a BBL reduction can help.
Candidates for a BBL reduction:
- Desire to reduce the size of their BBL or natural buttock fat
- Want to eliminate fat from the buttocks permanently
- Are nonsmokers, or are willing to quit
- Have realistic expectations for results
- Are interested in the procedure for their own satisfaction and not the desire of others
What Are My
BBL Reduction Options?
A BBL reduction can be performed alone or with another cosmetic procedure. Dr. Bivens will use liposuction techniques to remove fat from the buttocks, but he can also treat other body areas for fat removal if desired. Some popular combination procedures include:
Liposuction of the Abdomen, Hips, or Flanks
Liposuction of the abdomen, hips, or flanks can provide a more cohesive slimming appearance in addition to your BBL reduction. Dr. Bivens can smooth and contour the body by removing fat from these adjacent areas to create a more balanced silhouette.
Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, is another complementary procedure that can smooth the midsection and tighten abdominal muscles. Combining this procedure with your BBL reduction can support a more balanced frame and contribute to a slimmer physique.

How Is a
BBL Reduction Performed?
Your Consultation
The first step to every cosmetic procedure is a consultation with Dr. Bivens. During your meeting, he will review your medical history, examine the treatment area, and listen to your goals and concerns about the procedure.
Your consultation is a crucial part of the process, as it allows you to bring any questions to Dr. Bivens and better understand what you can expect from the procedure itself, the recovery period, and the results. Prepare for your consultation by writing down questions and concerns ahead of time to make the most of your meeting.
If you decide to proceed with the procedure, and Dr. Bivens agrees it is a good fit for you, he will create a surgical plan. This will be customized to your specific goals, anatomy, and current health condition. He will then provide clear instructions on how to prepare for your procedure, which may include pausing any medications that can interfere with surgery, any lifestyle changes (like quitting smoking), and setting up transportation for after the surgery.
The BBL Reduction Procedure
Dr. Bivens will begin the procedure by marking the incision locations in the treatment area. Once this is complete, you will be administered anesthesia to ensure optimum comfort. Dr. Bivens will make small incisions over the pre-marked areas before inserting a small, thin tube called a cannula. Dr. Bivens will remove fat via the cannula, using even back-and-forth motions to make a smooth contour throughout the process.
Once an adequate amount of fat has been removed and the contour of the buttocks is smooth, Dr. Bivens will carefully close the incisions with sutures. Next, you will be monitored as you come out of anesthesia before you are cleared to go home.
What Is BBL Reduction
Recovery Like?
Immediately after your BBL reduction procedure, you will experience some swelling and bruising in the treatment area. Any discomfort should be manageable with pain medication either prescribed by Dr. Bivens or over-the-counter.
Similar to other body contouring procedures, you will be asked to wear a compression garment over the treatment area. Not only does this help limit swelling to the buttocks, but it helps loose skin retract and tighten after volume loss.
Avoid putting pressure on the buttocks for a few days following the procedure, and be sure to get plenty of rest as you recover. Most BBL reduction patients can return to work after one week if strenuous activity is limited.
Dr. Bivens will provide detailed aftercare and recovery instructions. Be sure to call our office if you have any questions.
When Will I
See My BBL Reduction Results?
You may notice an immediate change in the size of your buttocks following surgery. However, swelling will make your buttocks appear larger than they are. Once the swelling has subsided, about a week post-op, you can see your slimmed, contoured buttocks. As you continue to heal, your results will continue to improve.
Scars from BBL reduction are generally minimal, as the incisions are only large enough to accommodate the cannula. With time and proper scar care, they should fade.
How Much Does a
BBL Reduction Cost?
Each BBL reduction procedure is customized to the patient; therefore, the cost will vary. The total price will depend on the surgical plan, if you have combined your BBL reduction with any other procedures, and anesthesia fees. Once a surgical plan has been created and agreed upon, we will happily provide an accurate cost estimate.
