BBL Revision
Orange County, CA

Sometimes, we need a change. A BBL revision is a cosmetic procedure that does just that: whether you want to reshape the buttocks, reduce the size, or smooth out some asymmetry, we can help. Our team at Optimal Plastic Surgery is here to work with you and get you the BBL revision result you want–and deserve.

Dr. Joseph Bivens is a board-certified plastic surgeon with decades of experience performing primary Brazilian Butt Lifts and perfecting secondary BBLs through BBL revision surgery.

What Is a
BBL Revision?

BBL revision is a secondary cosmetic procedure that reshapes the buttocks after an initial Brazilian Butt Lift. A BBL revision gives you the opportunity to alter the projection, size, and shape of the buttocks to better suit your aesthetic. In some cases, due to a difficult healing process or otherwise, patients are unhappy with their BBLs and want to reshape the buttocks for a more desirable result.

What Are the
Benefits of BBL Revision?

BBL revisions are designed to help patients get closer to the ideal shape and projection of their buttocks. The fat grafting process of an initial BBL can result in inconsistent fat accumulation, or natural weight gain can cause the buttocks to be too large for the patient’s taste. In addition to this, a BBL revision can:

  • Create a more pleasing contour of the buttocks
  • Reduce the size of the buttocks by removing excess fat
  • Reshape the buttocks’ projection to suit the patient’s goals better
  • Smooth out divots and asymmetry of the buttocks
  • Increase the patient’s confidence and self-image
  • Create a more balanced silhouette

Am I a Candidate
for BBL Revision?

Candidates for a BBL revision have some aspect of their buttocks that they would like to alter, be it an excess of fat, an undesirable shape, or they simply realize a slimmer backside looks better for their frame and aesthetic. In many cases, patients desire a curvy backside and undergo an initial BBL only to find that the result no longer suits them. Additionally, candidates for a BBL revision:

  • Wish to make adjustments to the size, shape, and projection of their buttocks
  • Are in good health and have realistic expectations for results
  • Are nonsmokers, or are willing to quit
  • Are interested in the procedure for their own satisfaction and not the desire of others

What Are My
BBL Revision Options?

Generally, the alterations made during a BBL revision are via liposuction. We have a variety of liposuction modalities available, such as tumescent liposuction. Dr. Bivens will recommend one that will best suit your goals, skin elasticity, and level of necessary revision.

Some BBL revision patients desire a more cohesive body contouring experience in addition to treatment of the buttocks. As such, a few procedures can help complement a BBL revision’s slimming and contouring results.

Liposuction of the Abdomen, Flanks, and Thighs

Liposuction is a very versatile procedure that can be applied to various areas of the body. Liposuction is ideal for areas that harbor excess pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. For a more balanced, cohesive result, it might benefit some patients to undergo liposuction of adjacent body areas, such as the thighs, flanks, abdomen, or lower back.

Tummy Tuck

Weight fluctuations, hormonal changes, and previous pregnancies all contribute to excess skin, fat, and separated abdominal muscles. If you want to smooth the midsection, a tummy tuck can be a fantastic option with your BBL revision.

How Is a
BBL Revision Performed?

Your Consultation

The first step will be to have a consultation with Dr. Bivens. He will review your medical history, examine the treatment area, and explain your expectations from the BBL revision. During your meeting, be sure to ask any questions about the procedure, recovery, and results.

The consultation is an integral part of the process, as Dr. Bivens can help you understand any risks, give you a good idea of expected results in conjunction with your goals, and create a surgical plan tailored to your needs.

The BBL Revision Procedure

On the day of your procedure, Dr. Bivens will go over the surgical plan again with you. Then, he will make markings on the treatment area to note where the incisions are made. Next, you will be administered anesthesia for optimum comfort. Small incisions will be made on the treatment area before inserting a small, hollow tube called a cannula. Dr. Bivens will use the cannula to gently remove fat and smooth the surface of the buttocks using back-and-forth motions.

Once the desired amount of fat is removed and the contours of the buttocks are smooth, symmetrical, and the ideal shape, Dr. Bivens will close the incisions with sutures. You will be monitored as you come out of anesthesia, given specific recovery instructions, and sent home with a responsible driver.

What Is BBL Revision
Recovery Like?

You will experience some swelling, bruising, and possible discomfort the first night after surgery. You will also be sent home with a surgical compression garment that must be worn day and night in the early stages of recovery. This garment helps reduce swelling and lets the skin retract and tighten after volume loss. Any discomfort should be managed with over-the-counter pain medications or medication prescribed by Dr. Bivens.

BBL revision recovery is less extensive than a primary BBL recovery. However, you should still pay close attention to your aftercare instructions and call our office if you experience any issues. Be sure to rest as much as possible, and avoid putting pressure on your buttocks as you heal. Most BBL revision patients can return to work after one week if strenuous activity is limited.

When Will I
See My BBL Revision Results?

BBL revision is a very individualized procedure, so results will vary depending on the patient’s goals. If the aim for you is to remove volume in the buttocks, you may notice an immediate difference. For volume reduction, the results will continue to improve as swelling subsides.

For patients who desire a reshaping of the buttocks, results may take a little longer to see as swelling and bruising may alter initial impressions. After about one week, you should see the new contours and shapes Dr. Bivens has sculpted.

Any visible scarring from a BBL revision should be minimal, as the incisions are only large enough to accommodate the cannula. With proper scar care and time, they should fade.

How Much Does a
BBL Revision Cost?

The cost of BBL revision will vary from patient to patient, as each procedure is tailored specifically to your needs and goals. The total price encompasses the surgical plan, the amount of necessary revision, any combined procedures, and other fees. Once a surgical plan has been created and agreed upon, we will happily provide you with a cost estimate.
