Thigh Lift
Orange County, CA
A thigh lift, also known as Thighplasty, is a cosmetic surgery done to tighten and enhance the look of the thighs. The appearance of the thigh may be less attractive due to excess and saggy skin, flabbiness — which could be caused by pregnancy, drastic weight loss or pregnancy. The thigh lift aims to modify and contour the thighs to make them slimmer and proportional to the rest of the body. The plastic surgeon may perform liposuction together with Thighplasty to make the thighs smoother and more toned.
Types Of
Thigh Lifts
Three types of Thighplasty are available. They include:
- An inner thigh lift, which enhances the skin in the lower part of the inner thigh
- A medial thigh lift, to improve the skin and fat on the upper portion of the inner thigh
- A bilateral thigh lift, which improves the skin on the outer part of the thigh
Inner and medial thigh lift procedures are done on an outpatient basis. The patient may need to stay overnight in the hospital for a bilateral thigh lift.
Patients considering a thigh lift procedure should know the surgery is not intended for weight loss. The operation is suitable for people who have an almost ideal weight but are displeased with their thighs’ appearance.
What To Expect
During The Thigh Lift Procedure
Thighplasty is typically performed under general anesthesia or an epidural. The incision patterns depend on the type of thigh lift and the treatment area. The most common thigh lift procedure starts with an incision around the groin. In all situations, the surgeon will remove the skin and fat, reshape and tighten the underlying tissue, then proceed to lift and smoothe the remaining skin. The skin will be sutured at the point of incision. The procedure typically lasts about two to three hours.
Recovery
Patients will experience bruising, soreness and swelling around the area after surgery. The surgeon will wrap the area in compression garments to reduce swelling and accelerate healing. Drainage tubes may be attached to remove excess fluids and minimize the risk of infections.
The surgeon will take off the surgical sutures within two weeks. Patients may be placed on pain relievers and anti-inflammatory meds after the operation to help with the pain. Patients will be unable to swim, use a bathtub or hot tub until the surgeon gives consent. They may be able to shower two days after the surgery. In most cases, patients can return to work after a week and resume regular physical activities after a month or two. Any scar present will remain hidden in the body’s natural creases and disappear with time.
Risks
As with any surgery, there are certain risks associated with the thigh lift procedure, including bleeding, infection, deep vein thrombosis, skin loss or discoloration, pain, numbness and asymmetry. Patients must immediately visit the hospital if bleeding or other life-threatening complications occur. The surgeon may perform revision surgery to correct any postoperative issue.
